2024 YIR (year in review)

Well, 2024 came and went way too fast. Many things happened—some good, some bad, and some in between. Here are some things I did and learned, not only about myself but also about my skills.

First off, the one thing I said I was not going to do... I did (lol). That was photographing a wedding. Although I told myself I wasn’t ready for another one, boy, was I wrong. This year, I ended up photographing two weddings! While I definitely wouldn’t call myself a wedding photographer just yet, I think I wouldn’t mind doing a couple more next year.

This year, I photographed 12 families, 3 high school seniors, one maternity session, and two weddings. I know it probably doesn’t sound like a lot, but for it being just my second year in business, I think that’s pretty great progress.

I am very thankful for each and every one of my clients, both new and returning, who trusted me this year to create memories for them. I know you have many options, and some of you had amazing previous photographers that you trusted before choosing me. That means the world to me.

One thing I learned this year was to be more confident. You might be surprised to know that I’m pretty shy when it comes to meeting new people, which, of course, seems to contradict my work as a photographer. But I do feel my confidence grew, as did my knowledge and understanding of photography.

Now, unfortunately, not everything was unicorns and rainbows. I did mess up one photo session, and it was entirely my fault. I owned it, and although we are still working out the makeup date, I can’t help but feel horrible and so unprofessional. However, these things happen, and they are part of growing and learning how this business works—which is another area I’m continuously learning about.

Running a business is its own kind of stressful, joyful, painful, and most beautiful thing.

So, for 2025, not only do I hope to continue to improve my skills, but I also hope to double the number of sessions or even weddings.

Here is to a healthy, bountiful, prosperous new year for me, for you, and for all.!!
