3 things I love about photographing families.
Growing up as an only child with a single working mother, I always dreamed of having a big family one day. While my family isn’t as large as I imagined, I’ve found that my close friends fill that space beautifully, becoming an extension of my family in their own way.
In Mexico, where I grew up, family is everything. We live together, eat together, fight, makeup, and most importantly, love one another deeply. That deep-rooted appreciation for family inspires my work as a family photographer. When I’m photographing families, my goal is to capture you and your loved ones exactly as you are: having fun, being silly, and showing love in all its forms. Here are three reasons I love photographing families and what makes it so special to me:
1. Photo Sessions Bring Everyone Together
Trust me, I know the hassle of trying to get everyone ready for family photos. Coordinating outfits, avoiding stains and wrinkles, perfecting hair and makeup, and hoping the kids are cooperative—it can feel like an impossible mission. But let me tell you something: even if everything doesn’t go according to plan, it’s still perfectly imperfect. And that’s what makes it just right.
A family photo session is one of those rare times when everyone is together—grandma, grandpa, uncles, aunts, cousins, and kids. It’s a moment to pause, connect, and create memories that will last forever. My job is to capture that togetherness in a way that feels authentic and timeless so you’ll always have those moments to cherish.
2. True, Raw Emotions and Love
Families are full of emotions, and one of my favorite parts of being a photographer is capturing them all. Whether it’s an unexpected hug from Mom, a kiss on the cheek from Grandma, or a child’s pure, unfiltered joy, emotions are impossible to hide—especially for kids! These candid moments are what make family photos so powerful. They tell the story of your family’s love and connection in a way no posed picture ever could.
3. You
Yes, you! As mothers, we’re often the ones behind the camera, capturing memories of everyone else. I know I have more photos of my kids, my partner, and even the dog than I do of myself. But being in family photos is one of the greatest gifts you can give to your loved ones.
It’s so easy to make excuses: “I’ll wait until I lose those extra pounds,” or “I’ll wait until I can get my hair done.” Trust me, there will always be a reason to wait, but the truth is, these moments won’t wait for you. Your kids won’t stay little forever, and tomorrow is never guaranteed. Family photos capture these fleeting moments, creating a legacy that your loved ones will treasure for generations.
Family photos are more than just pictures; they’re a way to hold onto the love, laughter, and connection you share. Whether it’s a big family reunion or an intimate session with just your immediate family, I’m here to make the experience joyful and stress-free.
